Staff Captain. 2/2 Punjab Regt. Son-in-law elect of the B.C.  Hails from Devonshire.  Went to Blundell’s, and then an agricultural college. Became fed-up with the latter and joined the army through Sandhurst in the summer of 1938.

Div. L.O. 6/14th Punjab Regt. Went through Belgaum. Studied agriculture in England, but worked for a large firm in Madras just before the war.  He had spent three years rubber planting in Malaya, and thereafter some time in West Africa. 

 

 

His brother – a senior forest officer in Malaya, was in Changi Gaol.  His sister used to drive at Brooklands, and in various rallies. He had very pronounced likes and dislikes.

Nodden Charles Drake

Bde. Sigs. Officer. Royal Signals. Lived at Ballintoy, N. Ireland in a converted coastguard station on the cliffs.  His father is a prominent chemist in Calcutta. At the outbreak of war, Nodden was still at Campbell College Belfast. He had had even

 

 

at that time, a very wide experience of wireless telegraphy, and joined the R. Sigs. at home. He came out to OCTU (Officer Cadet Training Unit) at Bangalore with draft

 

 

RCHDM. After his subsequent course at the R. Sigs. depot, he spent a few weeks on the frontier before joining the Brigade just before we left for Singapore.  At Changi, he was general factotum and odd-job man, being exceptionally clever with his hands.

RIASC. BDE. RIASC officer. Lived at Bangalore, employed as salesman by Godfrey Philips & Co., the tobacco people.  Went to Belgaum and Kakul, joined the Brigade at Poona.
