14th January 1942

Arrived in Segamat around 0630 after an awful night; lost the convoy en route. Choked petrol feed defied our efforts for hours. Scarcely any sleep again. An awful jumble of Motor transport on the road, in parts double banked, some 10 miles long. Surprised it was not bombed by the Japanese before dawn. Caught up with convoy staying in rubber plantation (Australian’s there too). Stayed at the motor transport park, some 6 miles south of Labis, until 1100 hours and then moved off southwards again. One truck machine gunned and some Indian troops hurt. Stayed at Socfin Oil Palm Estate until 1800 and then move off to Batu Pahat into a decent camp.
