A World Goes By

I long for the world I once knew

Its ways were hard but we battled through,

Helping one another in times of stress

A time of compassion none the less,

One learned life's lessons the hard way

Never complaining at the end of our day,

If we had a warm home and an evening meal

We were content its peace we could feel,

Prestige was an unknown factor

All was equal no benefactor,

What of today's troubles and woes

No answer to its highs and lows,

Something is lost a closeness we knew

The modern way is not of my time and my view.
