Connected with these are earth estate roads and bridle paths leading to the beaches NS and NW of SANDAKAN and continuing Road S 1 to BELURAN on LABUK Bay.

Communication SOUTH and WEST of SANDAKAN Harbour is by river and native. footpath only, and in the case of timber extraction, by narrow-gauge logging railways. There is recorded to be a bridle path from LAMAG to S SAGAMA.

    Metalled portion; B, under 5 tons,

    Earth portion; C, pack transport only.

Factors affecting classification

In the dry season the earth portion and the adjoining earth roads might be used by light car traffic.

General description of Road

The road, which is metalled for 15 mls only, connects with numerous bridle paths leading to beaches NE and NW of SANDAKAN. The road continues as a bridle path to BELURAN; this bridle path is reported to be impassable for foot traffic in the rains,

Terrain alongside road

It is reported that from mile 3 to mile 8 the road runs through rubber plantations, and for the rest of its length, through open country.

Sharp turns and gradients

None.

Construction and condition of road

Reported to be 21 ft overall width, with 15 ft of metelling.

Availability of road material

There were quarries, reported to be of whinstone ( banded cherty rock) at the end of BULI SIM SIM and on BERSELA Island, at the entrance te SANDAKAN Harbour.

Residency. ERNISRINA Road leads EAST, BEATRICE Road WEST to rejoin at ml 1.13 and ml 1.5, respectively.

Bridle path EAST and SOUTH back to ERNESTINA Road.

Bridge path leads NE, about 1 ml, to beach at BUKIT MANDOR (about 2.75 mls NW of TANJONG PAPAT).
