Arrive Singapore

19th January 1942

It was on this day that the three ‘drove round looking for the convoy’. Richardson went to 3rd Corps H.Q where he met Lieutenant Daniels who took them, and the occupants of two other lost trucks, to 7 MRC (Military Reinforcement Camp) on Braddel Road.58

20th January 1942 - Arriving in Singapore

8. Unclear as to when 1st Independent Company was disbanded. Nothing mentioned in Richardson ’s diary once they got to Singapore , seemed to be their own agents, but Fearon took Richardson and Pollock Advance Command HQ at Sime Road and to Fort Canning (Malaya Command). 21st Jan 1942 .

20th January 1942

Richardson and dad went with Major Fearon to AIF HQ near Johore Baru and met Col Kent-Hughes. Regarding joining up with AIF. Not possible as still attached to Independent Company.

21st Jauary 1942

Fearon took dad and Richardson to Advance Command HQ at Sime Road and to Fort Canning (Malaya Command). Told that Volunteers to go back to FMSVF at St. Patrick’s school. “ Not an attractive outlook for the Volunteers are always buggered about.” They all commence leave.

22nd January 1942

Spent the day wandering around Singapore. Like this for the next couple of days.

26th January 1942

Went to Sime Road for update on possible Intelligence Corp work. “ we are on list as ‘excellent material’ but still no job. They want us however.”
